Core Web Vitals

Every website on the Internet, in order to be consistently successful, needs to be constantly updated in terms of quality of service. To this end, Web Vitals was created to help a marketer, business owner, or developer quantify the website experience and identify and improve it.

What is Core Web Vitalas?

The Web Vitals service was launched by Google. Its main goal is to systematise the information that defines the quality signals needed to adapt a website so that every user has a great experience when using it.

With the development of technology, Google has introduced a number of tools that help measure and report on performance. They are quite complex and therefore only a few developers are able to use them professionally. With Core Web Vitals, every website owner doesn’t need to have any special experience with web testing tools to focus on the most important metrics of their service.

Main indicators

The Core Web Vitals service has a set of web metrics that allow you to analyse all websites. The results can be viewed in Google’s available tools. There are three key indicators: LCP, FID, CLS (loading speed, interactivity, and visual stability). Each of them focuses on different aspects of the user experience with a particular website. It is important to remember that each of these indicators will change with the development of technology. For the three indicators mentioned above, Google has defined recommended thresholds for a good user experience. The page should load no later than 2.5 seconds after the first launch (LCP). The time to full interactivity should not exceed 100 ms (FID). The last indicator related to visual stability should be 0.1 or less (CLS).

How to check the indicators Core Web Vitals?

The fastest and easiest way is to use the PageSpeed Insight tool.  To perform the test, visit https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?hl=pl, then enter your website address in the form field and click “Analyse”. It is worth noting that the results will differ on individual subpages. Therefore, it is worth checking not only the main page, but also various subpages of our website.
